The management of bushfires in South Australia is fundamentally important to the wellbeing of our landscape as they cannot be prevented altogether. The main management strategy is prevention which is led by the CFS but is carried out by all individuals in vulnerable areas. The CFS recommend homeowners in risk areas maintain their land so that dry grass and leaves are minimal during the hot dry seasons, this can be achieved through mown lawns, the cleaning of fallen branches and controlled burning. Furthermore, for those that plan to stay and defend their property they should be well equipped with firefighting mechanisms (CFS, 2016). The government have also put laws into place that completely ban man lit fires in the worst seasons for bushfires. Additionally, there are constant CFS alerts that allow the public to know the risk of bushfires on a day to day basis.
